Personal Safety Tips Continued
*You can be attacked day or night, it doesn't matter!  Be prepared at all times.

*All you want to do is break the attackers hold, and get away.

*Differ your route to work, home, school, whether you are walking or in your car.

*NEVER hitchhike!

*Look confident, keep eye contact with people.

*Always park in well lit areas.

*Never leave your car unlocked, even if its only for a few minutes.

*Always check the back seat of your car before you get in.

*Travel in groups, there is always safety in numbers.

*Always let someone know where you are going, approximately when you should be returning, and contact numbers where you can be reached.

*If attacked and need to defend yourself, go for soft or vulnerable areas of the body, such as eyes, knees, throat, or groin area.

*Always keep your cell phone close to you at all times.

*Never drive with your windows down at night, and always lock your doors.

*Never pull your car off the road because someone is pointing down at your tire or other parts of your car.  If someone does this, get on your phone and call 911 and highway patrol or police can come and check it out if you are having problems.  Never get out of your car and check it out by yourself, because it could be a ploy for the other person to get you out of your car.

*If attacked and they want your purse or car, give it to them!  Its not worth dying for!

*Understand your environment: avoid dark parking lots, get an escort, or hurry quickly through them with keys ready if you have to.

*Issue a verbal challenge: If you feel threatened by someone, tell them "get away" or something else that will draw attention to them and yourself. You will immediately know their intentions when you issue this warning.

Remember: There are people out there who will do you harm if they have the chance.  Don't give them the chance!  You can be prepared and know what to do if ever confronted with this type of dangerous situation.  First and foremost, be aware of your surroundings!  Many dangerous situations can be avoided if you pay attention and don't take chances.
