Clifford Leon Herl
Clifford was last seen on March 20, 2005, in Trego County, Kansas.  He had a roommate in Tyrone, Oklahoma at the time and was supposed to go to Tulsa, Oklahoma for a job interview.  Instead of going to the interview, apparantly Clifford went camping at Cedar Bluff Reservoir in northwest Kansas.  Other campers who saw Clifford camping, said he was acting oddly.  His pickup truck was reported as abandoned and was impounded by police on March 21st.  The truck was about two miles away from the reservoir and one of the windows was broken.  Police found his camping equipment, clothing, wallet, driver's license, and Social Security card, along with a shredded note inside of the truck.  Clifford wrote something bad had happened, but he was afraid to tell the police, and he wanted to change old things in his life to new ones.  Some accounts said the note indicated suicide, however police stated there is no evidence that he is dead.

The months following Clifford's disappearance, there were several break-ins at cabins around Cedar Bluff Reservoir.  Police said the individual(s) appeared to have stayed in the cabins for several days, ate stored food and used the bathrooms.  There was also handwriting similar to Cliffords found on some papers in one of the cabins.  However, it hasn't been established the break-ins were connected with Clifford.  After his disappearance, there was an abandoned tent found 3/4 of a mile from his truck.  Inside the tent were bizarre letter addressed to Satan, however, there is no proof the letters were written by Clifford, but police are considering the possibility.

Clifford was a former employee at the Southwest Daily newspaper in Liberal, Kansas.  He was fired shortly before his disappearance after he suddenly stopped coming to work and gave no explanation about why he had been gone.  Clifford's loved ones said his behavior changed drastically before he disappeared.  He was a conscientious worker and had just been promoted in 2004.  A week after he was fired, the newspaper office was broken into.  There was no sign of forced entry, which indicated the person(s) knew the door code.  The crime remains unsolved and is unknown if the break-in is connected to Clifford.  Police have not ruled out foul play in Clifford's disappearance, but believe he may be in trouble and are concerned for his safety.  He may have been sighted in Lamar, Kansas in September of 2005.  His case remains unsolved and Lamar police are assisting in the investigation.
